and determining T1 availability where you live is never easy.
When you go to perform a search in your favorite search
engine, you see millions of pages, all of which claim to save you money. In reality
what your are seeing are a bunch of internet marketing experts who know little
about dedicated service at all. They create simple HTML forms that look like they have been
programmed by a seventh grade student which captures your information, and either
sends it to every vendor in the universe or some in-house former used-car salesman
who will sell you whatever will pay him the biggest bonus. The internet is littered
with this garbage, confusing customers and leaving a sour taste in their collective
mouth. What started out as a search for competitively priced dedicated services
has turned into a circus!
In 2002 my partner, Adam Edwards, and I decided to take the road less traveled. We
realized early on that in order to create an online experience that was worthy of your
time, we needed to provide information you can use - not your typical "enter your
information here and we'll get back to you" elementary page. In order to do this, we
invested a full year researching all of the different
T1 providers in order to understand their pricing models, many of which were created long before we were born.
Based on information we extracted from this research, we invested heavily in complex programming
that would allow us to calculate loop prices, or the cost that the local phone companies pass on to the
dedicated service providers for access to their network. This cost varies by mile,
by market, and by geographic region of the country. Once we rolled up our sleeves
and performed extensive testing, we called our product 'GeoQuote' and released it to the
public on this very web site in 2003. We are currently in the process of patenting this
unique technology.

reactions we received include "that can't be done - it's never been done before" and
"that is an interesting business model". Now these same vendors have become
believers, and our very best partners.

Definition 4. - The T-carrier system, introduced by the Bell system in the US in the 1960's, was the first successful system that supported digitalised voice transmission. The original transmission rate (1.544 Mbps) in the T1 line is in common use today in ISP (Internet
Access Service Provider) connections to the Internet
Definition 3. - The T1 (or T-1) carrier is the most commonly used digital line in the United States, Canada, and Japan. In these countries, it carries 24 pulse code modulation (PCM) signals using time-division multiplexing (TDM) at an overall rate of 1.544 million bits per second (Mbps). T1 lines use copper wire and span distances within and between major metropolitan areas. A T1 Outstate System has been developed for longer distances between cities.

An OC3 line is an ultra high-speed connection capable of transmitting data at rates up to 155 Mbps. Some ISP's, large corporations and universities with high-volume network traffic will require an OC3 if they have an extremely high volume of traffic that can't be handled by a DS3. An OC3 is so large that some ISP's use this as the backbone to their network. If you believe you're in the market for

While you may be an expert when it comes to network connections and data applications you will still want to have an expert by your side when it comes to pricing and negotiating for a connections. The expert to whom we refer is a broker or independent agent. In addition to being knowledgable of the technology a brokers expertice lies in his or her knowledge of carriers, their networks, their strengths and weakenesses and also in their relationship with sales managers and VP's at the companies. This means a better deal for you!
There is an opportunity to achieve significant cost reductions in your
oc3 service. The key is using an expert broker. Brokers don't charge fees to the end user and they don't mark up the priceof the service. They are paid by the company which you sign with at the end. As the carrier doesn't have to pay an inside sales rep for the sale, they compensate the broker instead and maintain the same margin as though you went direct. Another advantage of the agent is the fact that he is paid on a residual basis. This means that he or she is interested in the longevity of your account and the level of your service.

Like most telecommunications services
DS3 prices (commonly known at T3) have been falling for the last few years. This is due to several factors. Competition has been heating up since deregulation in 1996. The number of companies offering service has exploded. With more competition in the marketplace service providers have to reduce their prices to attract customer and keep them from going to competitors. Service providers are desperate to keep margins but even more desperate to keep adding customers. This competetive arena has created a buyers market for DS3 lines and pricing is as favorable as it has ever been!
The soft economy and crash of the stock market has also contributed to the reduction in
ds3 price. Since the peak of the market in 1999 many companies have gone out of business and no longer require service. This means there's a smaller pie available and there are plenty of telecom providers trying to get their share. Once again, the buyer is in control and can shop until he or she finds the price that is right for them.
A final reason for the reduction in DS3 pricing is the fact that equipement costs and the cost of supplying the bandwidth have decreased. This means that companies can supply the bandwidth at a lower cost. As bandwidth usage continues to increase as a result of bandwidth hungry applications like video on demand and graphic heavy applications the price of bandwidth will coninue to drop. The only factor that seems tlikely to inhibit prices from falling much further is the "last mile" or the connection from the users premise to the service providers' POP (Point of Presence), but we'll save this issue for another article. While Dave Letterman may never read this list on his show, we've created a Top 10 list of
T1 Internet Providers. In our review of service providers we considered realiabiltiy, customer support, provisioning and financial stability. In our opinion a top provider of services will have a high rating in each of the catagories. Unfortunately some of the providers we found were regional providers and may not be near you but two of them are so good you may just want to move closer to be on their network!
The top company in our survey was Telepacific. The only downside to this company is the fact that they only offer service in California and Las Vegas. Telepacific received top marks in all four or our categories and is what we recommend most to customers in California. The second carrier in our list was USLEC. Like our fist pick USLEC is a regional player offering services in the south and on the eastern seaboard. USLEC was founded and is run by engineers. These people have a passion for getting it right and keeping their customers happy. Number three on our list is New Edge Networks. New Edge is a national player found predominantly in metro areas. New Edge is large enough to be a strong player but still small enough to treat customers like a small company.

Available everywhere in the continental US, ACC used the ATT network exclusively and provides a high level of service. Positions six through ten when in the following order: Telarus, Sprint, Xspedius, PNG, and Megapath. When looking for a reliable provider you should be comfortable with any of these. Make sure you speak to your broker about the strengths and weaknesses of each carrier. While our rankings were based evenly on the four criteria mentioned at the beginning of the article you may decide that some criteria are more important to you than others. Good luck in your search.
